Projects Set at 8 Cultural Sites

RALEIGH – The North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources received $15,957,400 in December from the General Assembly’s Government Operations Committee for restoration and preservation projects at eight institutions.  The projects will commence this year.

In Eastern North Carolina:

–Somerset Place Historic Site, Creswell, will stabilize the foundation of the Collins family home - $2,585,300;

–Mattamuskeet Lodge, Swan Quarter, will undertake phase 1 of renovations, structural repairs and planning - $1,500,000;

–Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, Hatteras, will plan completion of the museum exhibits - $408,700.

In the Piedmont:

–Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum Historic Site, Sedalia, will improve infrastructure and conduct interior renovations to house classrooms and interpretive spaces - $3,921,100;

–North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh, will renovate interiors - $1,600,000;

–North Carolina Transportation Museum, Spencer, will complete renovation of the Power House, including roof repair, supports to meet seismic requirements, door, window and masonry repair - $2,159,500;

Old Salem Heritage Education Center, Winston-Salem, renovations of this state-owned building for use as multi-purpose educational facility - $1,977,800;

Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA), Winston-Salem, repair of house and two attachments including roofing systems and exterior wall repair - $1,805,000.
