WWII Theme at Maritime Museum
BEAUFORT – The North Carolina Maritime Museum will examine World War II in February. Every Thursday at 2 p.m. the museum will feature a different “Victory at Sea” film. “Victory at Sea” is the legendary, award-winning World War II documentary series that first aired on NBC in the early 1950s.
The World War II theme continues February 7 at 2 pm, with a lecture by Dr. Charles Aquadro and his wife Jenny entitled “A Trail in Underwater Medicine.” The lecture will address Dr. Aquadro’s work as liaison between the U.S. Navy Underwater Demolition Team in the Pacific theater & undersea medicine for Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau.
Dr. Aquadro, who retired from family practice in Beaufort, was a medical officer in the U.S. Navy. Cousteau, who died in 1997 at the age of 87, was a French naval officer, explorer, ecologist, filmmaker, scientist, photographer, and researcher who promoted marine conservation.
The N.C. Maritime Museum, Dr. David Nateman, director, is located at 315 Front Street in Beaufort. It is part of the Division of State History Museums in the N.C.
