WILMINGTON–Living history interpreters will participate in demonstrations Friday, May 2, through Sunday, May 4, that show the life of the Battleship North Carolina crew during World War II. Visitors will be able to view living history demonstrations and activities Friday, May 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, May 3 from 1-5 p.m.; and Sunday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see living history interpreters bring the Battleship to life. See sailors and marines demonstrate typical daily activities, drills, and inspections just as they would have back in WWII. Come and participate in shipboard activities. The demonstrations are included in the regular admission to the Ship.

Additionally the WWII Home Front will again highlight the role of civilians, particularly women, during the war effort and will be located in the Visitors Center. This area will feature displays of home front items as well as hands on activities.

Friday night at 9:15 p.m., in Celebration of the Commissioning of the New USS North Carolina Submarine (SSN 777), the Battleship will host spectacular fireworks guaranteed to dazzle the entire family! The Battleship complex will close at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.  Primary viewing for the fireworks will be from downtown.  Radio station WGNI-102.7 FM will simulcast music choreographed for the fireworks show.

On Saturday, May 3, the Azalea Coast Amateur Radio Club will operate three Special Event Stations on board; voice, Morse code, and VHF/UHF on the main deck. Original equipment, cabling and antennas are used whenever possible.

The USS North Carolina Battleship Association is holding their Annual Reunion Thursday, May 1, through Sunday, May 4. Crewmembers and their families will gather together to reminisce about life aboard ship and the War years at this special reunion. Two book signings will take place in conjunction with the reunion.  Roosevelt Flenard will sign copies of his book “Someone Paved the Way” Thursday, May 1, from 2-4 p.m., and Cindy Ramsey will sign copies of her book “Boys of the Battleship North Carolina” on Saturday, May 3, from 3-5 p.m.
