Today’s show highlights some of the stories found in Cultural Resources 2008 theme, “Telling Our Stories.  First up, Fay Mitchell takes a look as some unusual donations to the Museum of History. (:24)

“Letters About Literature,” a project of The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, in partnership with Target Stores and in cooperation with the North Carolina Center for the Book, and other state centers, has selected its 2008 national winners chosen from this year’s 59,000 entries.  North Carolina had 1,483 participants in the contest, which allows students to communicate with an author about how reading the writer’s book has made a significant difference in the student’s life.

We hear from Level II first place winner Leah Howard, an eighth grader at Exploris Middle School in Raleigh (4:33); Claire Bennett, also an eighth grader at Exploris, who received an honorable mention (6:12); and Diamond King, a fourth grader at Kingswood Elementary, who also received an honorable mention (8:42).

Leah wrote Scott Westerfeld, author of the book, “Uglies.”  Claire got in contact with Kate DiCamillo, author of “Because of Winn-Dixie,” and Diamond wrote E.B White about his book “The Trumpet of the Swan.”

Theater of the American South will take place May 15 through June 1 in Wilson.  Festival founder Gary Cole talks about what is on the menu – literally…(10:25)
