Fun and Informative Programs Highlight North Carolina Archives Week

North Carolina Archives Week is October 19-26, 2009, a time when the North Carolina State Archives, in the Division of Archives and History, North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources, offers many informative and fun programs. North Carolina’s theme is “Celebrating the North Carolina Record.” All events will be held at the Archives and Library Building, 109 East Jones Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. Archives Week Activites - October 19-26

The North Carolina State Archives, a section of the Division of Historical Resources, Office of Archives and History, N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, was one of the first state archival programs in the nation the Archives houses over 50,000 linear feet of permanently valuable materials containing millions of individual items. Materials in the Archives collections constitute by far the most valuable assembly of manuscript records and North Caroliniana in existence. The “Treasures of the Archives” include the 1663 North Carolina Charter, John Adams essay “Thoughts on Government,” the 1750 “Gaelic Charm,” and letters from George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
