Tryon Palace begins a yearlong film festival on Tuesday, March 12 with a free showing of the animated hit “Ratatouille.” The first of four films slated for the Palace’s food-inspired Fresh from the Past Movie Night, “Ratatouille” begins in the Waystation Auditorium at 7 p.m.
“Ratatouille” tells the story of a culinary genius named Remy and his dreams of becoming a famous French chef. The only thing standing in his way? The fact that he’s a rat. Join Remy as he forms an unusual alliance with Linguini, a kitchen worker in one of the most famous restaurants in Paris. Brought to life by actors like Patton Oswald, Brad Garrett and Peter O’Toole, this 2007 Pixar film is an entertaining journey of self-discovery that all ages will enjoy.
The Waystation Auditorium is located on the corner of George and Pollock streets (across from the Palace front gate), with seating set to begin at 6:30 p.m. and the movie to follow at 7 p.m. Admission to “Ratatouille” is free but donations are welcome. Snacks and refreshments will be available and all seating will be on a first-come, first served basis.
Movie Night is presented in part by Fresh from the Past: Food and Culture in Eastern North Carolina. This yearlong theme of programming at Tryon Palace includes cooking demonstrations, food related programs, tastings and historic dinners. The remaining Movie Nights include: “Fried Green Tomatoes” on June 11, “Who’s Killing the Great Chefs in Europe?” on September 10 and “Chocolat” on December 10.
